The actual number of Kyrgyzstan casinos is a fact in some dispute. As info from this country, out in the very remote interior part of Central Asia, can be difficult to get, this may not be too difficult to believe. Regardless if there are 2 or three accredited gambling halls is the element at issue, maybe not really the most consequential piece of data that we don’t have.
What certainly is credible, as it is of most of the old USSR nations, and certainly true of those located in Asia, is that there will be many more not allowed and alternative casinos. The adjustment to authorized gaming did not encourage all the underground places to come away from the dark and become legitimate. So, the battle over the total amount of Kyrgyzstan’s gambling halls is a small one at best: how many legal ones is the element we’re trying to resolve here.
We are aware that in Bishkek, the capital municipality, there is the Casino Las Vegas (a marvelously original title, don’t you think?), which has both table games and one armed bandits. We will also see both the Casino Bishkek and the Xanadu Casino. The two of these contain 26 slots and 11 gaming tables, split between roulette, twenty-one, and poker. Given the amazing likeness in the sq.ft. and floor plan of these 2 Kyrgyzstan casinos, it might be even more astonishing to determine that the casinos are at the same address. This appears most difficult to believe, so we can no doubt state that the number of Kyrgyzstan’s casinos, at least the authorized ones, is limited to 2 members, 1 of them having changed their title not long ago.
The country, in common with most of the ex-Soviet Union, has experienced something of a fast change to commercialism. The Wild East, you might say, to reference the anarchical circumstances of the Wild West a century and a half ago.
Kyrgyzstan’s casinos are in reality worth visiting, therefore, as a bit of anthropological research, to see money being played as a type of social one-upmanship, the aristocratic consumption that Thorstein Veblen spoke about in nineteeth century America.
