There is a captivating story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is illegal. Eight casinos are based in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that features a number of amenities aside from the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
