There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den betting is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that features many luxuries accompanying the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
