There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
