There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is banned. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling den, features 150 slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many amenities on top of the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
