There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a relatively small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of most borders.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of comforts accompanying the gambling den, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
