There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel compound that contains many amenities aside from the casino, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 table games.
